This Saturday, the CHS a cappella ensemble “The Thursdays” participated in the Northeast semi-final round of the International Championship of High School A Cappella, more commonly referred to as ICHSA. The Thursdays placed first in the semi-final round, and will advance to the finals in New York City in April.
The final round will feature 10 high school a cappella groups from across North America, and will include eight of the semi-finalist round winners and two wild card ensembles. The lineup for the finals is still being determined, as the regional semifinals are ongoing. So far, the groups scheduled to perform are:
Synergy - Women's a cappella | Oregon Children’s Choir (Eugene, OR)
Enharmonic Fusion | DeKalb High School (DeKalb, IL)
The Thursdays | Chelmsford High School (Chelmsford, MA)
Osa Vocal Rush | Oakland School for the Arts (Oakland, CA)
The ICHSA finals will be held at the Town Hall Theater, 123 West 43rd St. in New York City, on Friday April 21 at 7pm. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.
The students in The Thursdays are thrilled to participate in this event, says Amanda Roeder, CHS Choral Director: “I'm particularly proud of the way this year's group coalesced around their competition set. The students chose three songs that highlight themes of division, isolation, and unity. They feel a deep connection with the music, and it is incredibly gratifying to watch them bring their message to an increasingly wider audience.”
